NHBEA 2010 Acheivement Award Nominations

The NHBEA Achievement Award Committee is accepting nominations for the 2010 Business Education Achievement Award. Current NHBEA members may nominate themselves or another NHBEA member for this award.

Nominees should be members who have made a contribution that furthers the knowledge of students and/or teachers in the areas of Business and Marketing Education. Achievements may include classroom presentations, research, vocational student organizations, projects, cooperative work experience programs, or other activities related to Business and Marketing Education.

The award may be presented to an individual, several teachers, administrators, or an entire department. This year’s recipient will receive an award of $100.

Nominations must be postmarked or received electronically on or before September 30, 2010. If you have any questions regarding the criteria or award in general, please contact NHBEA President:

Donald H. Peterson Professional Development Award

2010 NHBEA Application

The New Hampshire Business Education Association presents the Donald H. Peterson Professional Development Award to a deserving member of the Association in honor of Donald H. Peterson, the Business and Office Education Consultant for the State of New Hampshire from 1965 to 1984.

This award allows recipients to enroll in a post-secondary course free of charge. The award is made possible through the auspices of a consortium of colleges throughout the state of New Hampshire . The voucher may be used for an undergraduate or graduate level course in business or education at one of the participating colleges.

Applications must be received on or before September 30, 2010. You may either apply for the award yourself or nominate another individual. The award is presented at the Annual NHBEA Fall Conference.

New Hampshire Business Educators Dr. Burton “Burt” Kaliski Service Award

This award is presented in recognition of business educators that have served the community, their students and their institutions with distinction. The award is named for Dr. Burton "Burt" Kaliski, Professor of Business Education at Southern New Hampshire University from 1975 -2006.

A well-recognized advocate of business education, Dr. Burt Kaliski recently retired from the classroom after three decades of teaching in New Hampshire. It should be noted that his classroom experience goes back into the early 60's as a high school teacher teaching accounting and business practice in New York City.

His career in New Hampshire includes having been Professor of Business Education and Chair of the Business Education/Office Administration Department, Dean of the Undergraduate School of Business at New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University-SNHU), Area Chair for Business Education and Research Methods at SNHU, and Chair of the University Center for Teacher Education.

His professional activities outside of the classroom include his membership, as well as having held numerous "Board" positions, in Delta Pi Epsilon - DPE, the Eastern Business Education Association, National Association for Business Teacher Education, National Business Education Association, New England Business Educators Association, New Hampshire Business Education, New Hampshire Vocational Association, Phi Beta Lambda-New Hampshire College Chapter, Pi Omega Pi-New Hampshire College Chapter; and the Policies Commission for Business and Economic Education.

He has also been a member of the State of New Hampshire Council for Teacher Education, New Hampshire Professional Standards Board, Mayor's Health Care Task Force-Manchester, and Mayor's Commission on the State of the City's Schools-Manchester, NH

Among his contributions to business education are his textbooks in subject matters such as Business Mathematics, Merchandising Mathematics, Office Management, College Accounting, and Keeping Financial Records for Business. Too numerous to list Burt has also published articles in the Journal of Education for Business, Business Education Forun, Compass, the New Hampshire Business Education Journal, NBEA Yearbook as well as the Business Education Association of New York Journal.

His passion for working with students has also engaged him as a dissertation advisor for doctorate candidates, a thesis advisor and practicum advisor for students pursuing graduate and postgraduate studies, much of which were in business education.

The New Hampshire Business Education Association proudly recognizes Dr. Burton Kaliski for his contributions to Business Education in New Hampshire.
